Happened to find you on the
web. I was having a conversation with our daughter (who is presently embarking
upon her college search) about my experience at Franconia. My time was short
there but well spent with the likes of Jerry Corcie and Bill Congdon and
a few others. I don't remember to many students. I had a roommate Mark West
who played the Oboe. There was a girl Nancy Robinson who lived across the
hall, she had a convertible MG that she insisted upon keeping the top down
on our ride into Littleton one evening. Between the cold wind and her accelerated
driving it was an experience I could have done without at the time. Today
it is one I am thankful for, oh and the Cognac did make it quite bearable.
There was also a fellow Alexi, who wander the hallways. Oh and Skip who lived
in the cabin. We had played some music together.
Living in the main building was wonderful for me because it was a hub that
most faculty and students returned to at one time or another during the day.
I loved the music performance room off the main floor. I often would sit
in silence and look out and beyond the valley. And if I stepped outside I
could hear the chimes echoing long through the cold mist that hung in the
valley.
My creativity continued after leaving Franconia. I took an apprenticeship
as a luthier and went on to design and build several significant instruments
for some prominent musicians. More importantly my wife and I managed to have
raised three mindful people.
See you all at Milk and Honey! I think "Hooki Booker" is playin.
